Why does my favourite natural skincare product not always smell exactly the same?

As a natural skincare formulator, I pride myself on using exceptional botanical ingredients in Amaranthine's skincare products. Essential oils, plant oils and butters, extracts, and herbs are carefully chosen for their beneficial properties for the skin. However, one common issue that can arise when using natural ingredients is scent variations.

Occasionally, you may notice a slight difference in the scent of our products. This is because essential oils can vary slightly from batch to batch. This can be due to various factors, including climate, weather patterns and disturbances, and soil conditions. Climate plays a significant role in the growth and development of plants. The amount of rainfall, temperature, and sunlight can all impact the scent of the plant.

Changes in weather patterns

Changes in weather patterns and disturbances such as droughts, floods, and storms can impact the scent of plants. These weather conditions can cause stress on the plant, which can lead to changes inits scent. For instance, during a drought, a plant may produce a stronger scent to attract pollinators to help with reproduction. With the ongoing issue of climate change, these weather patterns may become more frequent, leading to further variations in the scent of natural skincare products.

Soil conditions

Soil conditions are another important factor that can affect the scent of plants. The pH of the soil, the nutrient levels, and the presence of microorganisms can all impact the scent of the plant. For example, if a plant is grown in soil that is high in nitrogen, it may produce a more fragrant scent.

Growing practices

Growing practices can also influence the scent of plants. For example, the time of day when the plant is harvested can impact its scent. Plants that are harvested in the morning when the essential oils are more concentrated may have a stronger scent than plants harvested later in the day.

It's important to understand that natural skincare products utilising plant-based ingredients may exhibit slight scent variations from batch to batch due to various factors such as climate, weather patterns and disturbances, soil conditions, and growing practices. While these variations may occur, they are generally minimal and do not compromise the quality or effectiveness of the product. It's worth noting that commercial skincare products may have the advantage of consistent scent due to the use of synthetic ingredients, but they often lack the nutrient-rich properties found in natural skincare products. At Amaranthine, I believe that the benefits of using natural ingredients in our skincare products, including their beneficial properties for the skin, outweigh the minor scent variations that may occur. I am committed to providing high-quality natural skincare products that are effective and nourishing for the skin, while also being mindful of the factors that may impact the scent of our products.
