How and when to use a Face Oil in your skincare routine

How and when to use a Face Oil in your skincare routine

Using a face oil for the first time can be a bit daunting, especially for those who have oily skin. There is  a common misconception that using an oil will make your skin more oily and break out, but actually the opposite is true. Plant oils are a wonder for all skin types. They are full of omega fatty acids and are really well absorbed by the skin. Face oils can actually balance the skin and even prevent breakouts!

However, don’t be fooled by some conventional beauty oils on the market that often contains synthetic ingredients including commonly used mineral oil. Mineral oil can clog your pores and lead to breakouts.

Our facial oil is formulated with plant oils that are really high in anti-inflammatories, such as pumpkin and raspberry seed oil. These oils help to reduce redness and swelling associated with acne. The blend of plant oils that we use in the facial oil are also deeply nourishing and help to reduce acne scars over time thanks to the Frankincense essential oil.

How to use a face oil

Use the pipette to drop a few drops of the oil into the palm of your hand. It’s best to apply to slightly damp skin, as it will lock in the moisture in your skin.

3-4 drops are sufficient unless you have very dry skin - you can add a couple more drops as needed.

Apply the oil by gently pressing it into your skin or gently massage in into your skin as it will help the oil to penetrate better, as well as boosting your circulation.

When to use a Face Oil in your skincare routine

It’s always really important to apply a moisturiser or face oil after cleansing. You can use our Cleansing Balm to remove impurities and daily make-up.

Once your skin is cleansed, apply your face oil. If you use water-based serums apply them before the face oil. There is also an other way of applying these products, it’s simply to mix your water-based serum (it could be pure aloe or a hyaluronic acid serum) to your face oil. This will create an emulsion, really light in texture, so it’s perfect if you don’t want something too heavy on the skin.

If your skincare routine is a little bit more elaborate, and you have a cream as well, then apply serums, and then your cream and the face oil on top. Applying the face oil as the last step will seal in the moisture.

In summary, always start with the lightest to the thickest product, in terms of texture.

You can use the facial oil daily, AM and PM. We recommend PM application as your skin repairs itself overnight and also because this is when most people cleanse their skin. However, if an AM application suits you better then that's absolutely fine. If you wear SPF daily (which is great!) then apply your SPF on top of the face oil.

I really hope you’ll see and enjoy the amazing skin benefits of our facial oil !
